reviewed The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan (Percy Jackson and the Olympians (1))

Rick Riordan: The Lightning Thief (2006, Miramax) 4 stars

Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson learns he is a demigod, the son of a mortal woman and …

Some of the words are definitely dated at this point.

It's always weird reading books from almost 20 years ago and realizing how much things have changed. I know that this is a kids book from the early 2000s, but oh man, some of the words used to describe the characters. Anyone that Percy didn't really care for got a heafty heaping of harsh critiques on physical appearances.

Overall, though, found this to be enjoyable. The story moved along at a good pace and nothing really slogged. It became a little predictable, but it was written for children and not adults, so I didn't hold that against it.

Overall, I think my kiddos would enjoy this as they are both very much into Greek gods at this time, and I wanted a fun series that they could dive into that's not Harry Potter because I can't let them think it's ok to support the atrocity that is JK Rowling. This …

Amazing. Love it!

Wow. This is what I've been waiting for! I love the instant jump into the plot and focusing on it, it's a fresh take on this series' storytelling. Also, even though it was easy to figure out the best course of action on how she can solve the issue, the limitations were unexpected and fitting, great thinking there! (I don't want to spoil.)

Superb!

Yet another Nathan time travel series had come full circle. This novel was amazing because it combined the elements and writing style of Paradox P.I. and the original series, In Times Like These. It was a like a bridge. And no ordinary bridge, it's a bridge to the two series both out-of-character (OOC) and in-character (IC). One can actually start with Paradox P.I. before reading the In Times Like These. Perfect 10 as always! I can't wait for the next series.

What a journey

Interesting to read the part of that sky elevator, Mars, and synth from years before the original series. What made it cool was that, their timeline was as it is in the original series because of a Travers descendant. Which leads to the question, which came first? A great example of the Block Universe theory.
