Review of 'The white rose' on 'Goodreads'

3 stars

Continuing the Lone City trilogy, in this middle book we continue following Violet Lasting as she escapes her captivity as a surrogate for the wealthy nobles, discovers the larger reason that people are helping her escape (not very spoiler: she's special and they think she can help in a revolution), and discovers more about the history of the island they're on and how her magic actually works beyond the limited amount the nobles instructed the surrogates. It continues to feel very much like a cross between The Handmaid's Tale and The Hunger Games, and I can't say Violet makes any particularly brilliant choices, but it continues to be an entertaining YA read.
