For 4MA discussion. A character-driven story about the police, the prosecutors, and the defense lawyer involved in a slam-dunk case in which a radio personality confesses to the man who delivers his newspaper that he has just murdered his wife. Old-fashioned, leisurely, and with a surprise twist, the multiple protagonists get perhaps a bit too much development and those involved in the crime a bit too little. I found the ending convoluted and dissatisfying, but the well-developed characters were pleasant company.
