I got this book as part of a BOGO sale on Audible, so I can't be too angry. I mean, it was free. But I am kicking myself for mistakenly thinking this author had also written The Blind Side or The Silver Linings Playbook. Alas... nope. Catherine Ryan Hyde is more like the female version of Nicholas Sparks. This book is designed to be a heart-tugger and it pulls out all the stops in its effort: a blind, Jewish 92 yr old woman who escaped Germany in WWII? Who is befriended by an asexual 16 year old child of divorced parents – with a black dad and white mom because we're ticking ALLLLL the boxes - with a stepdad who doesn't really like him? I mean, c'mon.
