John Sevier had not taken much interest in the American Revolution. He was too busy fighting Indians in the Carolinas and taming the wilderness. But when arrogant British officer Patrick Ferguson (real-life inventor of the Ferguson rife) threatens his settlement -- promising to burn the farms and kill the families -- the war becomes personal. Sevier, later the first governor of Tennessee, organizes the Carolina Overmountain Men -- A militia whose 1780 victory against the Tories was called by Thomas Jefferson "The turning point of the American Revolution."
