A collection of essays and miscellanea chosen by the author - and perhaps therefore not as good as the posthumous “I’ll Be With You in the Squeezing of a Lemon”. It’s a bit heavy on Spectator articles bemoaning one thing or another and slightly predictable travel writing but there’s good stuff too. The history of “cooked mayonnaise” -ancestor of salad cream - is interesting and the review of Sir Harry Luke’s “The Tenth Muse” is nearly as much fun as the book itself
