A quick, engaging read hurt a lot by what feels like a rushed conclusion and a confusing opening that follows a major traumatic event for the protagonist that's not really explained until several chapters in. The opening chapters led me to believe this was taking place directly after the previous novel, and Elise had come away more injured from the final scuffle in the climax of that story than I had thought. A slow drip of information let me know that it was an entirely different event, which made it even more disorienting that we, the reader, don't know what happened for a good percentage of the book, especially with how important that event is to the story.
