I got used to the Scottish writing quicker than I thought. It does take more effort to read but I don't think this book would have worked without it. This is evidenced by the passages written in standard English that just don't work as well (aside from the HIV revenge story near the end which is one of the highlights of the book). Incredible characterization and totally nailed the sense of place. There isn't much of a plot to be had but there isn't supposed to be in this case. Worth reading for the Begbie parts alone.
