This book was interesting. I'm not sure that I really liked it. In accordance with the first in the series, the main character is kind of the scum, at least when it comes to personal relationships – particularly with women. I went back and saw that the first one that I actually read was number 17, and that one I enjoyed, enough to encourage me to read this series. So much for my insistence on reading series in order from first to last.
It seems that the emphasis on mystery in this evolved. I suppose that as the key characters change their understanding of the situation, as they kind of have to, concentrations have to change. Even before that, there was somewhat of a dry spell – accounting for the long time between when I started and when I finished the book. I really got bored and took a break. …

The author seems to have spent a lot of time on inconsequential details, and the message was somewhat lost. I think my next book in the series (I have been all currently on audio) is likely to be out of order. The development of personalities over time seems to be one that I can skip a lot of
