The forbidding chain link fence topped with barbed wire strands looked out of place on the Cape. But it did its job, separating the two feuding factions of the Howes family. On one side sat the boarding house known as Deathblow Hill, from which Suzanne Howes warily regarded the decidedly odd Simon and Abby Keith across the way.
