I came back to this after talking about it with someone who mentioned that the whole series was written as a sort of chaos magic ritual by Grant Morrison. They've always been one of my favorite graphic novel authors (I recently had a traveller character based on their Soviet ape from The Filth) so I decided to give it another go, having never finished it.

I'm not sure why I ever put it down. The writing is fantastic, the characters are given room to breathe...even though there's a lot of them...and there's a tangible love of the medium that comes through. I don't think this story could be told another way, and I think that's what makes Grant such a good writer for the tale.

I love all things weird, especially things that blend up science fiction and urban fantasy. This is definitely a high-water mark for that kind of …
