In different translations and periods, the diary had been edited for privacy reasons (and Anne had started editing it a bit herself when she learned that war journals and diaries would be worth publishing someday), so there are 3 main versions of the book. To keep context, it's a mix of the "A" "B" and "C" diaries that have been published, hence "The Definitive Edition"
