Vita nostra brevis est, brevi finietur… « Notre vie est brève, elle finira bientôt… »

A deeply creepy and strangely exhilarating story about being coerced into attending a psychologically abusive supernatural university. In this book there are pedagogical artifacts whose purpose is to change the student by forcing them into mental experiences that would have been unimaginable before the encounter, which is kind of a mirror or a metaphor for the experience I had reading the book itself. It's not much like Jeff VanderMeer's ANNIHILATION (in kind of a different way from the way in which ANNIHILATION isn't much like Joanna Russ' WE WHO ARE ABOUT TO...), but if what struck you about ANNIHILATION was the account of the internal experience of a person in the process of being, you know, annihilated, you might also like this.
