This and the two sequels are Young Adult books, so a very quick read. IMO the third is the best and this is the weakest, but this book is a fun retelling of the biblical story of Noah and the flood from the point of view of Reuben, Noah's neighbour, a poor musician and animal trainer. Along the way (and in both sequels) Reuben ventures into ancient Egypt and gets involved with the royal court and the intrigues there.
It IS a Christian book, insofar as it's based off the premise that Noah existed and the flood happened and a God spoke to him, but it's not preachy and treats the existence of a god basically in the same way that other fantasy authors treat gods in their fantasy worlds: as a part of the world and a plot device.

The author does a good job, especially in the two later books, of imagining life in ancient Egypt and the intrigues of the Royal pharoahs.
