I like a mystery that comes at the main plot in a somewhat oblique manner. A telling that's not afraid to work its way up to the killing, the kidnapping, the dark act that will consume the book. It says to me, this trip will be more fulfilling than a bare-bones "who done-it." So I was taken with this book from its beginning. And I am a real fan of sparse writing that sings. I must admit, the plot itself was one of those where you keep thinking, okay—I know the answer, so the author must be making me think this obvious solution can't be the real solution. But the embroidery around it was so lovely, I was okay with that.
