Jens reviewed Concerning My Daughter by Jamie Chang

Korea is not a country I know a lot about, so I was happy to get some more impressions through this contemporary novella. I am often drawn to stories with queer characters, and this is no exception.
The plot is explained well enough in the blurb included on the Goodreads book page. The narration flows smoothly, and it is quite easy to follow, even without much knowledge about the cultural context of the country where it is set.
What I found particularly refreshing, and what sets this book apart from many other LGBTQ stories: It is being told from the conservative mother’s viewpoint, a welcome change of perspective for me. Reading how her life and the “situation” with her daughter develops through her eyes was really intriguing, and I recommend this book to everyone who is open to this experience.
