It's taken me so long to review this book simply due to the fact I had a lot of feelings and that it took my forever to finish it. I wanted to love this book, I really did because I'm a sucker for fantasy romance, but this just wasn't it.
I finished Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones a while back after putting it down for quite a few months. I truly was excited when I initially began this book. The cover is gorgeous, it has romance, and the main character plays a flute, so I wanted to really relate to Liesl. Overall, I found this book to be boring. The characters, especially the main ones, were quite dull and boring, seemingly repetitive at times. I really expected a lot from the world building and although it was good, the book was just hyped way too much and it made me set my standards high.
This book was so slow, which is why I lost interest and put it down. The plot took forever to develop which was extremely disappointing to me as it meant the character development wasn't as grand as I expected. The romance really disappointed me because there really was not much of it.
This book had so much potential was honestly what saved it from a one-star was because I actually enjoyed the premise of the novel. But even so, I do not see myself picking up the second, and last, book in the series.
