I'm struggling with this series.
The first book: Middlegame, was brilliant.
But I didn't enjoy Seasonal Fears and Tidal Creatures was good only in comparison to it.
The main thing that erks me is the constant exposition. Characters keep telling us about the cosmology of this universe and there's very little action.
The characters are very flat, most of them no more than caricatures. Hardly anyone is likable or vulnerable.
Innocent and kind Kelpie, was the character that saved the book for me. With assistance from Isabella and her family.
I enjoy the Wayward Children series so much more. I guess because it deals with vulnerable characters and has less exposition.
