Worth Dying For is one of those Jack Reacher novels that reminds me that “low stakes” can still be really entertaining. It’s extremely unique because there’s no big threat to the country or the world, but just people being jerks. So you create a situation where people are just being yanked around all the time, they’re powerless to stop it, and toss in Jack Reacher — the Equalizer.
Sorry - that’s already taken. But regardless, the moment the novel starts, you know Jack is going to have words with the “villains”. I struggle to use that word because honestly, the other side are just your bog standard jerks. But they’re using a point of leverage brilliantly, and hurting the little people. Since I like to think that I’m the little people, this makes me really, really like Jack’s brand of justice.
Recommended.

I don’t actually mean to say that pedophilia and murder is mere ‘jerk’, but avoided calling that out to prevent spoilers. These are very, very nasty people, and prison or death is the right place for the Duncans.
The mystery of what’s being transported was somewhat muted, and I enjoyed the subtle evidence left behind for Dorothy’s lost child. I had guessed that was the case so this is one of those rare times when I managed to figure out a Lee Child mystery before the reveal.
The three-way showdown between the out-of-towners was wonderful. I was both laughing at the craziness, and impressed with Lee Child’s ability to show us their viewpoints and how they saw the situation. Reacher was often incorrect analyzing the enemy motivations and that was appreciated.
I loved this book.
