Fantastic military scifi set in H. Beam Piper's Terro-Human Empire. I get that the colonialism (especially when you know that its based on the Sepoy uprising) can be hard for modern readers to swallow, but take into context that 1) its written in the 50s and 2)Piper as a vastly knowledgable student of history and was likely trying to accurately portray human behavior in a science fiction setting (treating the four-armed lizard-like Ullerans like we treat each other) rather than endorsing the behavior.

Review of 'Uller Uprising' on 'Goodreads'

The author carefully crafts a straw-man situation to justify writing a story about colonial exploitation that shows the exploiters as the heroes.

The story itself isn't badly written, and if you can divorce the action from the situation it's quite good.

There is one decently written major female character, but she ends up becoming the protagonist's reward by the end of the story. She also plays the role of the liberal character who learns the error of their ways. A recurring theme in the author's works. At least she isn't as big a cliche as in some of the author's other works.

Trigger warning for dog lovers: there is a dog that is presumably killed off screen at one point in the story.
