Post-holocaust South-East Asian SF. I preferred this to Flowerdust which is an account of a journey only mentioned in Divine Endurance. The earlier novel has all the freshness of describing a culture both new and sort-of familiar, a magic-realist universe where sufficiently advanced technology seems to have become magic.
