Thornton is now part of my "fictional men are better" club. I was really invested in his part of the story because he was so lovesick and angsty all the time. But on the other hand, Margaret's feelings were quite hidden from me. I also would have preferred an even bigger focus on the love story overall.
And I didn't like how unions were depicted as institutions filled with mainly stupid workers who don't know what's best for them.
Nevertheless, I can see myself revisiting this novel quite regularly in the future.
