Dora Bruder is a short but impressive account of Patrick Modiano’s search for the records of a fifteen year old Jewish girl from the north of Paris. While Modiano goes through the archives, filling up the gaps in the story with police and even weather reports, he contemplates about his own youth. Despite his effort to bring back the past, Modiano is forced to conclude that Dora Bruder’s life – her feelings and thoughts – will remain a mystery.
