A lot of interesting content written in a not so interesting way. At times it was an extreme slog. But I learned a lot.
In the tradition of David McCullough, Ambrose turns his attention from the wars to the engineering feats of the era.
Should you have doubts about the term "feats" read the section on the Sierra Nevada difficulties and trains that ran 20 miles under shed roofs.
