Some Morse and some not. Strangely, "As Good As Gold" makes so many mentions of a certain Irish stout that I wondered if the story as well as the TV series was sponsored ... Dexter does have an obsession with misspellings which sometimes fits ill: I can't see a convict on the run caring about the position of the apostrophe in a sign saying "MACS SNAX - OPEN 24 HOUR'S". The back cover blurb puzzled me too: "Six ingenious cases for the world's most popular fictional detective". There's precisely one Sherlock Holmes story in this book. I don't quite agree that these stories were "dire", but they don't have the atmosphere that John Thaw brought to the character on TV.
