About halfway through, I got fed up with the accurately portrayed 18-year-old main character's thoughts, and started speedreading/skimming to follow the plot. It's not him, it's me. I didn't like 18 yo boys when I was a teenager, and I don't particularly like them now, and Zeph's even a good kid. There's some shaky elements in the world-building that affect the believability of the plot, but not enough for me to give up on it. Likewise, while some characters are really well fleshed-out, a few are unfortunately a bit underdeveloped. Certainly, when I get through my mountain of wish-listed or freebie books, I might revisit this series.
