This is really an incredible book: a diary written during the 2 months that Berlin fell to the Soviets. There is a lot of detail of daily life, and how things changed over this period. The writing is matter of fact. The anonymous diarist doesn't mince words or get bogged down with emotion - she is pragmatic even as the events unfold. Often awful events: death, rape, bombed buildings, no electricity, scant food and water.

I have read a lot of books - fiction and non fiction - about WWII, but never from this perspective.
