A young man discovers that he must marry a mercenary young woman before he can claim his inheritance. He is on his way to do his father's bidding when a body discovered in the Thames is identified as his, and his inheritance passes instead to Boffins, a working class man. The effects are felt through all levels of society.

Review of 'Our mutual friend' on 'Goodreads'

This is the ninth Dickens novel I've read, and it ranks highly. I read it faster than several of the others, which helped me keep focus: this is a particularly intricate story. The characters are not so fleshed out as in some of his other novels, though. Jenny Wren is adorable, however.
