I was either not very attentive or basically all they’re doing here is running around. Blameless has a classic middle book vibe. Nothing happens in and on itself, but a ton of info is put into it to get the plot of the next book going. And what is Sergeant Getting-engaged-to-every-Girl-in-London planning? It’s so obviously placed as “only girls gossiping, nothing to see here” that he has to be up to something.
For the rest of the book, Alexia discovers pesto and finds out about [Spoiler if you haven’t read the previous book yet] how the Infant Inconvenience could possibly have happened and what it means in the long run. And the title of the book series, The Parasol Protectorate is finally explained. It’s book 3 already, I almost thought there’d never be the opportunity to add that title into the narrative.
