Collection of highly imaginative short stories, including tales of a fantasy writer guided by the voice of her late husband, a surprise held in an auctioned storage space, a woman mistaken for a vampire, and a long-ago crime avenged in the Arctic via a 1.9 billion-year-old stromatolite.--

5 stars

Nine short stories; the first three are tied together, each centering on a different character but echoing the same events through different eyes, although they all could be read separately. The others seem unconnected (though one references characters from one of her previous novels), but all nine stories share a theme of death: someone dead, someone dying, someone a character wants to kill.
