Review of 'The Martians' on 'Goodreads'

3.25 barely missing 3.5. An extremely mixed bag of stories and poems with the best being easily in the 4-star range, some just being a little on the strange side and some being very experimental. I enjoyed the stories of Eileen Monday and Roger Claybourn (no relation) very much, even though the middle one was far from my usual reading habits (basically a novella about rock-climbing).

Apart from a lot of poems, there are some funnier stories, a soundtrack, lots of stuff about Michel and Maya and some about Maya and Coyote, a little bit of Sax and Nirgal. Nadya, Hiroko and Anne are not really present, unfortunately.

Fair warning: The book is a bit of a downer in some regards.

In conclusion, a fine book if you really want more in-universe Mars from Robinson, but if you just like his writing, there are better titles like Years of Salt …
