I came to this to get a good summary of quantum mechanics for someone with a philosophy background, and the first part delivers on that, but later when it gets into the philosophy it becomes quite illiterate.

Quantum theory is not understood well. Opened by Heisenberg, in the early 1900s. It states that relationships between things are the basis of reality, not things themselves.
Il trattatello di Rovelli sulla fisica quantistica è senza dubbio interessante e ben scritto, ma mi ha lasciato piuttosto perplesso. L'autore propone la sua interpretazione sulla fisica quantistica e le sue stranezze con un approccio basato sulle relazioni tra enti più che sugli enti stessi. Effettivamente nella maggior parte dei casi sembra funzionare abbastanza bene, ma quello che mi ha turbato è che Rovelli lo dà per certo, come soluzione ormai accettata dalla comunità scientifica, con ben poco spazio al dubbio. Ora, io, come tutti i profani, ne so molto poco sull'argomento, ma non avevo mai sentito parlare dell'interpretazione relazionale: forse è qualcosa di molto recente? O, impossibile non pensarlo, la sicumera dell'autore è eccessiva?
A parte questo dubbio metodologico, l'autore spiega molto bene quando si parla di fisica, e le sue divagazioni storiche e sulle personalità di quel periodo chiave della scienza sono molto piacevoli. A mio parere se …

Lì sembra poco a suo agio, e le sue argomentazioni appaiono spesso posticce o per lo meno poco convincenti.
Nonostante tutto questo, è certamente un libro stimolante.
In this beautiful book, Rovelli argues quite convincingly for the relational interpretation of quantum mechanics: The fundamental components of reality are interactions, not objects, and a particle only exist while it is interacting with something else.

The first half of the book is an interesting history of quantum physics.
The second half of the book is a treatise on "quantum physics and the meaning of life" that remains beyond my ability to understand after a casual reading.

Short, interesting, thought provoking. No reason not to read it if you have a free afternoon.
