The Case of the Missing Marquess

Opened this by mistake, finished it quite deliberately!
Despite early mentions of prostitutes & cutthroats this is a very sweet & satisfying mystery aimed at quite young folk. Interactive in the form of a cypher (explained past the epilogue) & encouraging of further exploration of arcane topics such as the language of flowers as well as the convoluted women’s undergarments of the era. Touches on feminism & egalitarianism & I do hope that successive books set up the young reader for some heartily bolshy thoughts, lol. Cute, I liked it.

Um bom pastiche de Sherlock Holmes. A leitura é bem rápida, mas um pouco confusa, pois acaba tratando de dois sumiços: da mãe de Enola e do jovem marquês do título. A representação de Sherlock e Mycroft é bem fiel aos livros, e a ambientação é bem feita. A descrição das vestimentas vitorianas é bem detalhada e seus múltiplos usos bem original. Um ponto positivo: Enola é uma detetive independente dos irmãos, que aparecem muito brevemente no livro, criando assim uma possibilidade de histórias originais, sem se apegar tanto ao canon de Sherlock. O livro acaba rápido e completamente em aberto para novas histórias da série, que pretendo continuar a ler.
