Review of 'Alabaster' on 'Goodreads'

A little bit of my history regarding Alabaster.

I'm from the Netherlands. We don't have comicbook stores that carry US comics and graphic novels. I can't walk in and browse the goods and see if it might be something I would like to read. So I have to use this Belgian webstore, that imports them. Thing is, I really have to judge my GN's and comics by the cover and a really small description.

Last year the cover of Alabaster: Wolves caught my eye, and I ordered it. It was my first introduction to the works of Ms. Kiernan. Although the story was very confusing, with references to past events, I absolutely enjoyed it. The artwork was great, the dialogue very good, and I could feel the southern vibe.

I bought Pale Horse, which didn't help much in understanding Dancy. But again, I really liked it.

I picked it up because the artist is Steve Lieber, and it was as beautifully drawn as that implies! It also has female protagonists, with agency, who aren't drawn as freaks. so there's that. The story is compelling, but is more dystopian than is my taste.
