This is a collection of short stories and poems written about the lives of African Americans in the 1920s.
An excellent experimentally modernist hybrid text, combining poems, character sketches, and a final narrative. Toomer brings these disconnected pieces together to create a larger history of life in the South underscored by racialized violence.
