World War III has left the world ravaged by nuclear radiation. A lucky few escaped to the Alaskan wilderness. They've survived for the last thirty years by living off the land. When Juneau returns from a hunting trip to discover that everyone in her clan has vanished, she sets off to find them. Leaving the boundaries of their land for the very first time, she learns something horrifying: There never was a war. Cities were never destroyed. The world is intact. Everything was a lie.
Searching for fellow survivors of World War III, a girl from a remote Alaskan village discovers the war never actually happened and that she must now adapt to a strange and dangerous modern world. The plot contains profanity.
After the End is a YA. So, I forgive it some of its more simplistic elements. I'm not a big fantasy fan, but this one isn't bad. I liked the magic system Ms. Plum uses. The pacing is a bit slow for my tastes, but I liked and cared enough for Juneau, and her people to keep reading. Didn't care for the ending. I'm not sure I'd recommend it, but I had fun.
