Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

I guess this was quite the way to get introduced to the TMNT Graphic Novels instead of the early 90s cartoon and the absolutely peerless 1990 film.

The art is absolutely stellar, the colors and lighting are fantastic. The dialogue and subject material are darker and more down-trodden than I had expected, but this apparently tracks with the original graphic novels.

I loved seeing the final epiphany of the Last Ronin written in the notebook. A poignant way to try and set the next generation on the right path and to avoid the suffering that came before.

I grew up with the TMNT but, as for the comics, I have only read the first two volumes of East and Laird's original run. This volume, The Last Ronin, is one of the best comics I have ever read. The pacing, plot, art and character development is brilliant and executed with great care. After reading this, I just want to read more of the TMNT comics.

With some great mutant mayhem and beautifully-illustrated brawls, this is a bodacious entry in the series.

A collection of three story arcs varying between fun, exciting, and even heartbreaking, this series continues to be the best TMNT iteration yet.

This modern retelling continues to add rich, new elements to the TMNT mythos while not skimping on the action.
