Review of 'The Selfish Giant' on 'Goodreads'

This is a cute story and all, but I can't help but feel disappointed.
Wilde's writing is impeccable as usual, but this little fairy tale felt just a tad dull to me. The moral of the story has been covered a million times both before and after this came out, the final message is unbelievably saccharine, it's hard to believe that the uncrowned king of witticisms wrote this tale.

I feel I'm missing the point though - I may have to spend more time reading up on the background of this compared to the 10 minutes it took to read the story itself. But is it worth it?
