Well, this says I read this the first time back in 2011, but I definitely do not remember it, so I'm looking at it now as the first time. I do know I liked it back then, just like I did with all the other gothic books of the author's (except the last because I never read that one, so need to do that!). But this time, I got the audiobooks, and was in the mood for something resembling a Halloween mood.
So, still liked it - definitely had the gothic mood - was this Doctor who studies human anatomy going around getting organs to study in an illegal and/or immoral way? - but also there is a Jack the Ripper type murderer going around, and coincidentally (or not!) ends up killing women the doctor knows. But meanwhile, Darcie finds here way into his home to work as a maid, …

But meanwhile, Darcie finds here way into his home to work as a maid, then artist - and as they get to know each other, they start falling for each other - but that just might not be a good idea if Damien is what it sure looks like he is.
The mystery wasn't something I really tried to solve for myself, I don't typically when I read, but here, that part and how it ended was kind of alright. But the personal demons of the two main characters were more interesting to me as was the romance.
