Review of 'Brimstone' on 'Goodreads'

The villain in this has caused Umbridge-levels of rage in me. It is remarkably impressive. I was shouting at them during the audiobook. My dog was concerned.

This feels like (and judging from the fact that it's listed as two separate series here on Goodreads, probably is) the start of an arc in the series. I'm going to have to see if the library has the next one, because I really need to know what happens next.

This starts out feeling like the previous books with a monster-of-the-week vibe, but expands into something a bit bigger. I've been enjoying them so far, but this is starting to feel more like a long-running story and I love the point where a series turns into that.

I'm getting remarkably fond of Pendergast, too. At first I was pleased he seemed able to see things clearly and get mysteries solved, but in the …
