some of the takes were pretty mid, lukewarm, and bordering on liberal; some of the points he was making felt somewhat reformist and he definitely was using a large amount of dehumanizing identifiers despite the recency of publication. i did like the talk on speciesism, and i think the reminder about the dangers of the meat packing industry for workers will stick with me for a while (esp in cutting down on my meat intake). 

i did enjoy and find value in learning about queer history around AIDS and people, like Michael Johnson and Lorena Borjas, but i would say this is not an area that i'm well-versed in. if you are, then you might find these sections uninteresting. some people didn't like the story telling / personal / memoir nature of parts of the book, but i found that i didn't mind it (though i wasn't expecting it).
