This is all centered around allegiances with others. The rebels part was fairly obvious since we know what ultimately happens - this is between episodes 4 and 5, so Han is still trying to figure that out, whether the rebellion is for him or not, Leia is the rebellion, and clearly Luke definitely figured out that it was for him when he met Ben Kenobi (so here it's more of a focus on him figuring out how to use the force, with Ben's help); but this also has a group of 5 stormtroopers that ended up technically being deserters and where theirs lie, besides with each other. The stormtrooper group was the most interesting - and have to admit, every time I figured I'd knew what was ultimately going to happen to them, I figured I was wrong. This is also my first book with Mara Jade. While she was not what I had expected at all in here, and that was a pleasant surprise, actually, I'm still on the fence about her as a character as a whole. Still, this was a pretty interesting story from the old canon days, showing particularly that there are humans inside those suits of white, and things aren't exactly as black as white as those suits are either.
