Overall I found The Oncoming Storm to be a very enjoyable space opera.
Kat Falcone is a young naval officer who comes from an aristocratic family in the "Commonwealth", a multi-system space empire run by a king, his parliament, and the massive corporations that started the whole deal. Her family connections lead to her being assigned command of a brand new ship and assigned to observe and report on the status of an occupied system on the brink of war.
I really enjoyed the world-building of the Commonwealth and how the different systems fit in and how new systems are treated by those in the capital. The story is mainly told from the points of view of Kat and her XO, William, but other points of view are sprinkled in to flesh out all the sides of the ongoing conflicts.

Overall, it was a really enjoyable book. The final battles kept me turning pages until it was all over.
