Review of 'Tribute' on 'Goodreads'

I liked the sound of this one, that it was going to have a mystery, still probably heavy on the romance, but nothing too tough or extreme in the violence area, since that wasn't the mood I was in. And I really liked this one. So basically from the blurb, the idea is did her grandmother really commit suicide, and if so, what was the real reason. You get real people, who fall for each other in real ways, but talk to each other with what they feel and are doing; the mystery didn't take over from the romance (which is always for me the number one reason I read romances), but it was interesting and added to the whole story. Cilla had it with Hollywood, and wanted to become a contractor - something not thought of as a female dominated job, which is a nice plus; but most especially, …

Every time I go into a Nora Roberts book, I expect to not be very surprised. And this isn't exactly fair of me, because while yes, we're talking romance novels here and the romance genre certainly has a huge list of common tropes, this does not mean Ms. Roberts is necessarily going to use them.

Let me give you an example with Tribute. The instant the heroine's ex-husband showed up, I expected him to be a bastard and/or to get a rivalry going for her affections with the guy she was obviously interested in. I also expected there to be Angst and Grief Oh Noez(TM) involved in why she was no longer married to said ex-husband. None of these things were the case, and this was delightfully refreshing.
