Review of 'The Big Rock Candy Mountain' on 'Goodreads'

Excellent! The best book I've read so far this year! A great American story, by a great American writer, of family, of yearning and struggling, of dreams and fears, of love and hate and coming to terms with who we are and where we are and how we arrived there. Maybe somehow forgiving and accepting the events of the past, the actions of flawed people, born of flawed people, creating flawed people, letting go of the pain and anger, and reconciling ourselves to the fact that those who have hurt us the most reside inside of us, have shaped us, dare say even loved us. And even as we are haunted by an ugly past, understanding we are strong enough to break free, to be different, to grow.
