I was hoping to start a new book series with this book, but unfortunately I was a bit disappointed. The story was alright, but not as thrilling as I was hoping it to be. Character development was rather jumpy and everyone felt more like people in their late teens or early 20s than adults. In addition, I enjoy visibility and diversity in books very much, but this was a bit too confusing: men being able to carry babies(?!) and most characters involved seemed to be gay. It was just a bit too much for me. I was really excited when the trip over the mountains started and things got exciting—unfortunately the excitement ended fast and the rescue operation was basically skipped.
