Review of 'Extremity' on 'Goodreads'

Daniel Warren Johnson's art is so full of movement, tension, and brutality. I'm not one that goes out of my way to read revenge tales but this was definitely fun and sad. I found myself angry with some characters and rooting for others and that tells me enough about enjoyment. DWJ is someone to watch.

I picked this up after seeing it appear on so many EOY lists. And I am glad I did.

It's harsh story about family and how to go on in the face of war and loss. In many ways it is a darker exploration of many of the same themes as Saga -- conflict, vengeance vs forgiveness, family, honor. What does it mean to be true to yourself? How do you go on when the best parts of you have been lost?

This is my first time reading Johnson's work, & I really enjoyed it. Artistically he is somewhat reminiscent of Paul Pope, and easily provides a depth and strangeness to this world.

Recommended, as long as you know it's a dark story of clan warfare.
