Much of the same ideas, but in a wonderful and succinct packaging.
This book is more sociological Sci-Fi than geological like Dune. It traverses a path from sociological mystery short stories to abstract and surrealist Sci-Fi, for which the author has clearly always had a sweet spot (see later Dune books).
