Whelp, I've become a Trekkie

I somehow just started watching The Next Generation, and now it's one my things.

Embarrassing, because some of it is just super lame. I can't really tell if it is more or less sexist/racist/cis-het than the average of the period: you can tell they "make an effort", but a lot of stuff more than roll-eyes now

Also the "sci" of "sci-fi" is super crappy. Yeah well, the whole concept breaks down without FTL, so I'll give them that, but the rest is bad

So much happening here! Where to begin?

Shaxs is flexing, shirtless, scars all over.

T’Ana is eyeing Shaxs with lust in her yellow, feline eyes.

Rutherford is leaping off a diving board, attempting to restrain a homicidal, knife-wielding Badgey. The former is wearing orange swim shorts. The latter is wearing a blue Speedo.

One of those majestic bird aliens is flying majestically over the scene, with only a black pair of briefs covering their naughty bits.

Ransom, in red swim shorts, is trying to get close to a couple of ladies. One, in a gold bikini, is clearly disgusted. The other, in a rather complicated one-piece swimsuit with a transparent panel (something very William Ware Theiss-inspired) gives him a literal shock. There’s a horga’hn nearby, suggesting this was a failed attempt at seeking jamaharon. (If you know, you know.)

Billups is posing like the pin-up hottie he is, in a pair of regal gold and black swim shorts.

Mariner is standing, smirking, holding a glass of unspecified clear liquid, wearing what appears to be a black sports bra and denim cut-offs.

Freeman is standing next to Mariner, in a purple one-piece swimsuit and blue sarong, holding a much bigger drink with a pink straw poking out of it.

Boimler wears a pair of red-orange sunglasses perched on his nose like he’s Tom Cruise in Risky Business, a giant green book tucked under his arm.

Tendi is in a blue and black bikini, relaxing, eyes closed, unbothered by the chaos. What a queen!

Yep, “Those Old Scientists” Is still a great #StarTrek episode. I get why they just did Boimler and Mariner but I’d love to have seen Rutherford and Tendi as well. So many little Boimler moments you could easily miss unless you look, like his Section 31 walk, his yelps, but also when he is competent.
