<THIRD CANDLE>

as
we
were
trying
to hold

we
were
alive
somehow

pitiful
memory of self
we held
as the winter
rained onto the
golden dirt
and everything's

blooming

and the electric candle
of the recollection is dimming

as the distant scream
touches you

_Knave of Diamonds_ by Laurie R King is the nineteenth in the Mary Russell series. I love Russell and this isn't a bad book really, I enjoyed reading it, but some of it's starting to feel a lot like filler.

Review - The Wages of Sin, by Kaite Welsh: this wasn't quite for me due to the many references to sexual assault, but it's an interesting historical fiction/mystery based around the first women who studied medicine in Victorian Britain. Rating: 3/5 ("liked it").
